I am a skilled multimedia designer and project manager with more than two decades of experience working on cultural projects to improve access to, and understanding of, our natural and social heritage. On graduating with a BA in Interior Design from Napier University in 1994, I immediately joined the National Museums of Scotland’s multimedia project and was a key figure in the establishment of the team, developing the design standards for early pilots and interactive digital exhibits for the Museum of Scotland, which opened in 1998. As a result of their success the group became a limited company The Multimedia Team Ltd within NMS Enterprises. The core team then 'spun out' from the museum in 2005 to form a new venture – CMC Associates Ltd. (CMC)
I now have an integral role with CMC and have designed and produced numerous digital interactive displays and AV exhibits for heritage clients in the UK and across Europe. We work collaboratively with 3D design companies to produce exhibitions for a wide range of clients including the National Trust for Scotland, Gordon Highlanders Museum, the National Library of Scotland, National Records of Scotland and Forestry Commission Scotland. I led on the design and production of the ‘View from the Train’ mobile phone app for Scottish Natural Heritage, which was downloaded over 2,500 times in its first six months of release. More recently I produced the ‘Museum on the Move’ app for the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland as well as digital exhibits at their new visitor experience centre in Whitehead.
In 2017 I worked with the Comann Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath (CEUT) – the North Uist Historical Society to produce the self-guided tour of the Udal Peninsula on the island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides which was a successful community-led effort. I have designed interactive digital catalogues for several clients including Historic Environment Scotland at Elgin Cathedral, The Wallace Collection and Hawick Museum. I recently completed digital displays for a new exhibition at New Lanark World Heritage site focusing on the geology of the region for the Clyde & Avon Valley Landscape Partnership.
I am also working with CMC to develop a new product ‘CMC Flow’ – an innovative service enabling organisations to maximise their own unique resources, efficiently creating high quality, flexible and dynamic content for platforms ranging from traditional exhibitions to social media streams.
In my spare time I travel to remote parts of Scotland as well as fiddling, running, drawing, cooking and fishing.
